Crows remember human faces. They remember the people who feed them, who are kind to them. And the people who wrong them too. They don’t forget. They tell each other who to look after and who to watch out for.

AU KAZ BREKKER:Kaz and his Crows somehow ended up getting mixed into a do or die situation that they didn't mean to get mixed up in, but yet they were. The Crows ended becoming a big help with saving the entire country and everyone's lives with Nikolai and his crew when The Darkling had threatened to and to an extent did, expand the Fold. It was mainly done to get to Alina and hurt Mal as they were trying to find a way to destroy it.After everything had settled and The Darkling was confirmed to be no more than a mere nightmare now, everything rejoiced and began to heal and seek out the people they wanted, Kaz was no different as he found himself seeking out his Wraith, who was praying to her Saints in the chapel; he was a man of little to no faith unlike Inej. After giving her a moment of silent contemplation and quite frankly to get his own thoughts together, they shared some pretty stiff words. Kaz then decided to give Inej a little piece of information in regards to finding her brother and possibly the rest of her family, something that he was looking into for her over time. He truly wanted to help Inej get some sort of closure she had been seeking for as long as he has known her; especially since he mentioned that his brother was never coming back an he got whatever closure he could although it wasn't ideally the type he wanted. But for her, maybe there was still a chance.After giving the info to her, Kaz was finally able to open up a little and allow himself to be vulnerable, in his own way at least. Pleading with her to stay with him, to come back to Ketterdam and be by his side. He even offered that they could possibly go look for her brother and parents together. The thoughts that he'd long tried to silence, the one's he'd tried to stifle and buried down for so long when they wanted to arise finally coming out, in his own way. Telling her that he wanted her. Kaz then gently grabbed her by her wrist and lightly caressed with his gloved thumb where her Menagerie tattoo once was, slowly moving his hand upwards. Inej gave pause and for a moment he felt hopeful but it was quickly snatched away as she'd put him on the spot by challenging him and wanting to know if he was ever going to be able to touch or kiss her without having his armor. In his case it was his clothes and gloves that he always used to avoid any accidental or intentional physical contact with anyone, including her. When he couldn't give her an answer, he slowly recoiled, however as harsh as her words came, she gently began to let him go.Looking at her with a rather intense gaze as he was going through many emotions at once; ones that he never thought was possible while trying to hide the hurt he was feeling inside as he couldn't give her the answer she wanted to hear. Taking Kaz's silence as her answer, Inej departed from his presence for the last time. Not once looking back, while he stood there for a moment and for once he was regretting letting himself open up while also feeling ashamed, upset, hurt and rejected.But life goes on. Doesn't it?Inej had gone off with Mal, Tolya and the others who now chose their own paths now that they didn't have to fight for their lives or to help tear The Fold down. They all discussed and agreed on the fact they all had a shared purpose, to go hunt slavers and in the process, hopeful to find Inej’s family in the process. And the funds she received from their near death mission, funded the expedition. Inej Ghafa now had a greater purpose, something other than Kaz Brekker, his biddings or even Ketterdam. She was free.Meanwhile Jesper, Nina and Kaz had all gone back to Ketterdam to continue on with their lives, a little bit richer nonetheless, although it did feel empty without Inej as Jesper and Nina pointed out, at first being upset with Kaz because they knew it was his fault for driving her away. Inej's departure was something that they all felt deeply and it was not just Kaz.While back in Ketterdam, Kaz had tried to help Nina get her own happy ending with her Fjerdan, Matthias Helvar by trying to get him out of Hellgate with a pardon but Pekka, although incarcerated thanks to him, saw to it that it never happened. It was a bit of retribution towards Kaz for fucking up his life and putting him in the hell hole. Nina’s own dream was to travel with the love of her life and experience things while being free herself, was snatched right out from under her before she could even blink. Therefore the Heartrender continued her tenure with Kaz and what was left of the Crows. Jesper had started his life with Wylan, while also still remaining at Kaz’s side, Wylan being a more permanent fixture around them as well, now that he helped out with everything. Those two were probably the only ones who got their happy ending out of everyone. Jesper also started to embrace more and more of his Materialnik abilities, specifically Fabrikator and Durast instead of hiding it, that was more in thanks to Wylan no doubt and the induced dream about his mother he had a few weeks ago.Kaz had to adjust his own life and kept himself busy by using his portion of the funds he received to fix up the Crow Club as a bit of a distraction. If his mind was kept busy he wouldn't have time to think about Inej. Besides the good thing was he always wanted to make it better than what it was, especially after Pekka laid his hands on it while they were gone. He always envisioned that the club had potential to be better than the competition around. Kaz also got more employees and worked in conjunction with the new owner of The Menagerie, someone Inej used to know well. Giving work to numerous girls who sought honest work, one that didn't involve skin trade. Since the renovations and reopening, things have been quite successful for him; he still had his remaining Crows, a successful restart to things and now he can begin to forget Inej.Kaz and Nikolai had also kept in contact and remained on good terms with one another since everyone had all departed and gone about there lives. Periodically the latter would call upon the Crows for help with jobs here and there which lined their pockets, so who were they to say no? Especially to the future King of Ravka?Prior to Nikolai and Alina’s coronation ceremony, the soon to be new Ravkan King had sent word to Kaz that he was sending his sister, Rhaenyra to Ketterdam to be under Kerch protection and Kaz's. Nikolai had felt that things would get much worse before things got better especially with the different nations starting to become restless, more so with the Fjerdan’s as he explained in his letter. Kaz ultimately agreed to house her and keep her safe as best as he could.Kaz sent word back to him to offer her work at the Crow Club while she stayed with him, if she wanted to. However, when Rhaenyra didn't arrive when she was scheduled to, his Crows were beginning to worry. He was about ready to go and send them out to search for her themselves since the matter of her arrival was delicate but he suddenly had no need to as she had miraculously had come to them; stumbling in to the Crow Club exhausted and frail.Kaz had Nina tend to Rhaenyra since she seemed to get along with her quite well and Nina's expertise would help her with certain things he couldn't. Jesper and Wylan would often be the errand runners for him for her needs until Rhaenyra got settled in more. He also didn't want too much attention to be put on her since she was royalty.Note:
Inej is no longer in this timeline after they helped tear The Fold down as she went off to hunt slavers and find her family. So it's just Kaz, Nina, Wylan, Jesper and now Rhaenyra.

About: Kaz Brekker.Kaz Brekker is a businessman, a gang member and leader of the Crows/Dregs, which consists of Inej, Jesper, Nina, Wylan and Matthias. He is stoic, ruthless and shows very little compassion or empathy for the most part. However, he does genuinely care for his Crows (friends) albeit having a great deal of difficultly actually showing it. He also has the line drawn at harming any child, thus proving he does have some empathy.There's nothing more important to him than revenge if you slight him and money which is why he's always willing to take on any job no matter the task or risks it may pose. Kaz is quite cunning, sly, manipulative, conniving and makes sure to always be the one in control of situations.Appearance:Kaz walks with a limp and carries a cane with a metal crow's head. He is always wearing black gloves and only has them removed when he's alone. He's young (approx early to mid 20's), thin build, dark brown hair and blue eyes.Skills:Despite the limp, he has some exceptional quickness about him.Kaz has some moderate fighting skills and can plan under immense pressure. He's a skilled lockpick.

Sometimes we go out searching for what we think we want and we end up with what we're supposed to have.

Relationship:Kaz recognized Rhaenyra from when Dreesen and Nikolai had him and Jesper brought in for questioning about Alina, but he didn't think anything more of her aside from the fact she intrigued him slightly. It wasn't until later that they had met up again when he and his Crows came to the rescue of Nikolai and his friends when The Darkling’s newly powered Grisha launched an attack on them. Rhaenyra had managed to save Kaz when one of The Darklings Nichevo'ya had tried to come after him, Wylan and Nikolai.(Still developing)Later when she came to him in Ketterdam, they had started to grow close. After a few months of being around one another, Kaz had begun to develop feelings for Rhaenyra but he wasn't sure if she would reciprocate them given their huge background differences so he kept his feelings close to his chest.(More will be added when they develop more.)

Headcanons & Personal Headcanons:__Canon:Kaz has an overwhelming repulsion (Haphephobia) to skin-on-skin contact due to the fact that when he was much younger he was dumped into the Reaper's Barge with the deceased during the Queen's Lady Plague (Firepox). This is also the reasoning behind his glove and heavy coat wearing all the time.The dark wardrobe is also worn as a mockery statement to the merchers. The only time he takes his gloves off is if he's alone in his personal space/room.Personal Headcanons:(More will be added when I think of them.)
